Humanity Pavillion

Project Summary

The Pavilion of Humanity is a unique competition with a requirement that each of us have dreamt of us an individuals, architects or otherwise. What would we do if Aliens visited Earth ? Only difference is this competition has an architectural twist to it and we are asked to design a structure that speaks best about humanity to the Aliens.

Our first idea was that whatever we design, it needs to become the next wonder of the world. And to do that, we thought we could create an interesting scenario. In this design, the lands around The Pyramids of Giza have eroded and caved, as a result of being flooded by the river Nile. This gives an idea as to how much our race has impacted the natural balance.

We as humans, start to build the Pavilion of Humanity as a symbol of hope, our next step into the future and a means of communication to the outer world. The idea was to create a structure bigger than The Pyramids to show grandeur and to show that humans will exceed all limits put forth in front of them. The main hall has a scaffolding placed next to it to show that no matter what happens, we will always be building bigger and better and we believe we can never achieve perfection.

On the river in front of the entrance, we have a coded messaging system using the Braille language as binary codes to communicate with other species. You are next met with the helping hand structure to show that humans will help each other in every situation until we are all moving forward as one species. Next, you enter the main hall that showcases scriptures and hand drawn graffiti that talk of the tales of all human achievements in their history. These halls are large enough for small planes, aerial vehicles or spacecrafts to hover through and visually interact with the above-mentioned scriptures. Upon leaving these halls, we enter the arena, which allows for gatherings of massive scales. This space becomes the primary verbal or visual area of interaction and communication between us and the otherworldly beings.

It was a special feeling to be nominated for the finals of the competition. We wish to have achieved the winning status but we were still immensely proud of our achievement.
